These favorites borrow their name from the Virginia Algonquian, the Native American tribe indigenous to the Chesapeake Bay. Chesapeake is derived from the Algonquian word “Chesepiooc,” which means Great Shellfish Bay. It’s as if the sea pulled up to your door with one bite into these mildly salty oysters with a sweet finish.
